Yaa Asantewaa, the warrior queen NFT
In the year 1896, the Ashanti people were in rebellion against the British presence in their lands. The then Ashanti king had been captured and exiled in an effort by the British to seize the Golden Stool, the sacred royal throne and ultimate symbol of power of the Ashanti. In a conference where Ashanti elders were gathered, Yaa Asantewaa rose and proclaimed to lead the warriors to battle as her male counterparts seemed to cower in fear. She led the Ashanti to arguably the fiercest battle the British fought. Even though she was captured and exiled eventually, her bravery and leadership ensured the golden stool never left the Ashanti. Inspired by Yaa Asantewaa, this collection projects the eight Ashanti family clans and their spirit animals.
