The Path of Yasuke NFT
Yasuke was an African man, who was brought to Japan as a slave by Italian Jesuit Alessandro Valignano, and got to the rank of Samurai. Yasuke's country of origin and real name are not told in the stories. He was possibly from Mozambique, Ethiopia, or Sudan. A man of his size and coloring was a rare sight for the native Japanese, who followed him wherever he went. Throngs of spectators crushed people beneath their feet trying to catch a glimpse of the tall, dark foreigner. Yasuke was introduced to Oda Nobunaga, the Japanese lord who was well on his way to reuniting Japan. Nobunaga, who loved European fashions and foreign knowledge, was intrigued by Yasuke’s skin color. He had never seen a Black man before and at first, assumed the color was some sort of ink that would wipe off. Nobunaga was so taken with Yasuke he took him into his service. Eventually, He made Yasuke a full samurai. Yasuke fought with Nobunaga in several battles, including his last, when Akechi Mitsuhide betrayed him.
