Up until now, we have viewed ourselves narcissistically as the “top” of the food chain. Our world view has been predominated by our incessant hunger and hunting prowess. At first, survival was a challenge, but, with each passing generation, we have become more efficient killing machines. Eventually, we tamed the wild beasts - managing every aspect of their lives - from their birth to their inevitable, and early, demise. And with each “advance” in technology we have become further and further removed from the reality of our sustenance. Today, we happily (and largely unknowingly) consume pesticide laden vegetables, antibiotic laden meats, and additive laden snacks and beverages. We know this food is not healthy, yet we eat it anyway. We see the rise in heart conditions, diabetes and cancer - the tragedy of childhood obesity and the countless preventable deaths, and the causes are obvious.

Big portions... Big stakes... Big gulp.
